News update Medicine man of Imus wards off evil spells and helps solve crimes

IMUS, Cavite - Believe it or not, a man known as a ''witch-buster'' in this town has helped police solve a number of mysterious crimes through his ''third eye'' which he claims sees past and future events in a person's life.

David S. Lungcay, a barangay kagawad in Imus town, is known for warding off alleged evil spirits, curses and spells by a ''mambabarang'' or ''mangkukulam'' (witches).

But police are among the hundreds who have sought his help because he could lead them in the right direction when investigating unsolved crimes. David said this is possible through his third eye.

Through prayers and oil rituals, the 44-year-old witch buster more popularly known as ''Ka David'' transforms from village official to town medicine man on Fridays.

This is the day when he performs his healing rituals at his house on Main Road in Barangay Buncadala.

The ''ceremonies'' have become an attraction in the neighborhood particularly to visiting foreigners.

Ka David, called ''barang'' and ''kulam'' (witch)-buster by neighbors, also claims to have a ''third eye.''

He claims to see the future and the ''power'' to heal the sick, it was gathered.

''Barang'' and ''kulam'' are local terms for magic spell or curse while ''engkanto'' is another word for ''kapre'' (tree giant), tikbalang (half-man, half-horse animal), dwendeng itim (black elf), white lady and other evil spirits.

Many people still believe that such ''creatures'' continue to exist in the modern age.

During the interview, David said the ''creatures'' should be addressed as ''they can kill or hurt people intensely.''

David's daughter, Nita, 16, and neighbors said that Ka David had cured thousands of sick people through the years. ''We can no longer count them, they're many, about thousands of them,'' said Nita.

David said he started curing people at the age of 15.

''It all started when I woke up one lazy afternoon when I was in high school. I saw my house without a roof and the heaven. I started to see incoming events,'' he said.

Through the years, David said he had seen the apparitions of Espiritu Santo (Holy Spirit), Diyos Anak (God the Son), Diyos Ama (God the Father) and Mama Mary (Virgin Mary), saints and the angels.

''I just wanted to share to the people on what I saw. I'm against the bad, I go for the good. I just want to help the people who are sick and possessed,'' said David.

He did not elaborate further, saying ''who would believe in me anyway with what I'm saying.''

David said he treats an average of 70 sick people on Fridays. Many of his ''patients'' are residents and foreigners who come from far areas, it was gathered.

Despite the ''wonders'' that he makes, Ka David, lives a simple life. His mother, who passed away a few years ago, was also a known faith healer in the neighborhood.

Ka David is a devout Roman Catholic even though he is known as a witch-buster or medicine man in this town.

He can also see past and future events in a person's life during the ritual and help them understand some wishes of their departed loved ones.
