News Update More housing units mulled for Caraga

BUTUAN CITY - The National Housing Authority (NHA) in Northeastern and Northern Mindanao regions is targeting to have more low-cost housing projects for 2010-2011, it was learned Saturday. NHA authorities in these two regions said they are still in the process of land acquisitions as they are waiting for the approval of the project's plan, which is already set for submission at the NHA central office. In this city alone, mushrooming of housing projects is seen as more housing subdivisions are currently being constructed by private real estate and subdivision owners. This city, the center of commerce and trade in the Caraga Region, is the fastest growing area in Mindanao due to its burgeoning tourism, mining and wood industry. The NHA is replicating the housing projects currently conducted by the private subdivision developers. The NHA officials in the two regions are already waiting for the approval of their submitted development plans to the Department of Budget Management (DBM), it was also learned. The NHA officials, however, refused to give figures as to the proposed budget so as not to preempt the plan and the actual housing development program in the two regions. In another development, in support to the legacy programs of outgoing President Arroyo specifically on poverty reduction, Agusan del Norte Gov. Erlpe John M. Amante reported his administration's measures to reduce poverty among the constituents of the province. Amante emphasized the importance of efficient basic services delivery as a key towards achieving poverty reduction.
