News update S'pore, Greece expand air pact

SINGAPORE and Greece have agreed to expand their bilateral Air Services Agreement, which will allow carriers from both countries to operate unlimited passenger services and cargo flights.

The expanded pact will also give their cargo carriers unlimited 'hubbing' rights for cargo operations and up to 14 weekly passenger services beyond both countries to any city worldwide.
Singapore carriers, for example, will be allowed to base their aircraft in Greece and use Greece as a hub to operate to any other country. The same privilege applies to Greek carriers.

A Singapore's Transport Ministery statement on Thursday said the latest liberal pact with a European Union member state 'promotes people-to-people ties, boost tourism and enhance bilateral economic relations not just between Greece and Singapore, but also between the Asia-Pacific region and the EU.'

At present, Singapore Airlines operates twice weekly passenger services between Singapore and the capital city of Greece, Athens.
