News Update Pasay may also ban firecrackers

PASAY CITY, Philippines - After Makati City issued an ordinance that prohibits the use of fireworks in 3 barangays directly affected by an oil pipeline leak, the local government of Pasay City is also planning to issue a similar ordinance.

Pasay's barangay 137 is right beside Barangay Bangkal, where the West Tower Condominium is located.

The Pasay government is concerned that firecrackers from their barangay may also pose a risk to residents.

Makati City is prohibiting the use of any sort of firecracker in Barangays Bangkal, Pio del Pilar, and Magallanes.

Residents said it has been part of tradition for them to use firecrackers to welcome the New Year.

They are disappointed to find out that their celebration may be less festive than in previous years.

However, they said they will comply with the ordinance because they know the risks if they violate it.

They have also prepared noisemakers such as horns and trumpets to use on New Year's Eve.
