News Update Two fishermen rescued at sea in Cagayan province
Two fishermen were rescued last Friday after floating along the sea off Cagayan province, local officials said Sunday. Fishermen Randel Corpuz and Cristopher Rosete of Palawig, Sta. Ana were rescued in separate places by fellow fishermen, according to Richard Alibania, the Sta. Ana municipal agriculturist. The victims’ boats, which developed engine trouble, capsized from strong waves and winds as they were trying to catch fish near Patunungan, Sta. Ana on Thursday. Corpuz was rescued in Aparri, and Rosete in Sta. Ana. Corpuz, who said he felt numb and weak, was confined at the Aparri Christian Hospital. With the incident, Sta. Ana police chief Senior Inspector Salvador Rivera told fishermen to refrain from going fishing in rough seas and strong winds as the weather is unpredictable this time of the year. Two weeks ago, two other fishermen were rescued also in Sta. Ana when their boat was sunk by strong waves. — JE/VS
