MANILA, Philippines - Former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) deputy chief of staff for logistics Commodore Teddy Pan can retire in peace on July 17 after he was cleared in an alleged anomaly involving the military's fuel supplies.
Pan, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1977, was relieved of his post last April over the issue. Military investigators also cleared him of involvement in another case.
He underwent investigation after his office disbursed around P400 million for fuel and lubricants for military units from January to March 15 this year.
Pan's office is only allowed to disburse P150 million worth of fuel supplies per quarter.
He also landed in hot water over the questionable distribution of fleet cards for gas allocations.
These reports, it was alleged, show the military's use anew of the illegal "conversion" scheme to generate funds.
"The allegations that the fleet cards were improperly managed were unfounded and that the fleet cards were accounted for," AFP spokesman Commodore Miguel Jose Rodriguez said. "Not true because they were all accounted for."
Upon retirement, Pan will be replaced by Commodore Edgardo Tamayo, a member of the PMA Class 1980, who currently heads the Naval Forces West in Palawan, according to a military source.
"There are no impediments to his retirement," Rodriguez said
