News Update Pinay in Palau hacked to death

MANILA, Philippines – An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) passed away in a hospital in Koror, Palau on Wednesday, June 29 due to severe lacerations on her head and arms, according to a report by the Philippine Embassy in Koror.
The victim, identified as 42-year-old Virginia Ventura from San Nicolas, Pangasinan, was hacked with a machete by an unidentified suspect on Tuesday, June 28.
Authorities said Ventura was attacked while she was on her way to Q-lala Department Store near Palau Hotel.
Ventura was rushed to Belau National Hospital for treatment but eventually died because of the severity of her wounds.
The suspect was arrested by authorities and is currently detained at the Bureau of Correction of the Ministry of Justice of Palau.
Philippine Ambassador to Palau Ramoncito Marino told the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) that he is closely monitoring the case to ensure the prosecution of the suspect. Ventura’s family was informed of her death through the DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (DFA-OUMWA).
The repatriation of the victim’s remains is being arranged by the DFA-OUMWA and the Philippine Embassy.
