News update No Ondoy-type of flooding

Elena Aben) No Ondoy-type of flooding, says Pagasa The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) assured on Friday that no-Ondoy type flooding will hit the country, especially Metro Manila, in the next three months despite the series of rains that have been occurring since the rainy season started.

PAGASA senior weather specialist Rene Paciente said that they do not find any indication so far that the type of rains brought about by typhoon Ondoy in September last year would be occurring in the next three months. Paciente said that considering that no typhoon has hit the country yet, and the level of water in water reservoirs, rivers and drainage are still low, the people could be assured that no deluge of Ondoy magnitude would take place in the next 3 months. "Sa ngayon wala pa kasing bagyong dumaan sa atin eh. Ang ibig sabihin non, yung mga reservoir natin, yung mga ilog natin, masyadong mababa pa yung level

So far, no typhoon has hit the country yet. It means our reservoir, (and) our rivers, still have low water level]," Paciente said. He said that if after three months, the level of water remains low, the possibility of having Ondoy type of flooding would be very remote until the end of the year. (Gabriel Mabutas)
