News update Young solon bares plans for Antique

SAN JOSE, Antique (PNA) - Antique Rep. Paolo Javier, who took his oath of office together with his father, Governor Exequiel B. Javier, Vice Governor Rosie Dimamay and members of the provincial board at the Evelio B. Javier Freedom Park on Wednesday, called on all Antiqueños to unite and work under one vision so that they can move towards progress.

The younger Javier, who was inducted into office in a simple but meaningful ceremony, further said he is extending his hand to his political foes, hoping to heal and bind the wounds of those who did not share the same vision as his in the last May 10 elections.

The young congressman then reiterated in his inaugural speech his thrusts with priority on education, food security, infrastructure, and job generation.

He said he will allocate more funds for education "so that there will be no child in my district denied access to college just because his family could not afford it and so that there will be more computer inter connectivity in schools where students could get quick information to enrich their knowledge."

For food security, Javier said he does not only intend to have food on every table but also enable farmers extra income by increasing their arable farmlands and rehabilitating irrigation canals, small water impounding systems, and farm-to-market roads.

He said he also intends to put up more grain centers, warehouse driers and rice mills to benefit farmers. It should be noted that Antique is mainly an agricultural area.
Primary Education, Population Growth and Socio-Economic Change
For infrastructure development, Javier said he will work for more national road-concreting projects and bridges to be put up in addition to such infrastructure projects in Sibalom to San Remigio, Bugasong to Valderrama which are now about to be completed by 2011.

Work on the Evelio B. Javier Memorial Airport will also be continued and improved. The plan is to open it to commercial flights in the near future. Also the rehabilitation of the Lipata Port in Culasi town and another one in Antique will be completed to promote trade and commerce in the province.

As for job generation, the youth will be trained to market and promote various tourist destinations in the province. Javier also said needed basic infrastructure would be provided, precisely to ensure that Antique's potential tourist destinations could be well-marketed.
Community development: The back-bone for promoting socio-economic growth
He said that with the many plans he has in mind for the province, it is important that Antique's elected leaders should now start laying the foundation for its socio-economic growth.
