At around 8 pm in Gamu. this familiar call of "balooooot!" can be heard every night in Upi streets. So what is Balot ? It a fertilized duck egg with an underdeveloped embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell sprinkled with some salt over it. In Philippine it has become a favorite midnight snack and beer companion to Filipinos. Initial my reaction to the Balot is OMG an embryo inside, to eat it was to close my eye practised the mind over matter and consumed it. The taste is quite similar to taste of a Century egg with a vingear smell, not that bad as long you do not want to get the detail biological aspect of it.
