The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (Pagasa) has upgraded “Ramon” to a tropical storm.
The state weather bureau, which said that the storm has intensified, raised Public Storm Signal No. 2 in Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar, Surigao del Norte, Siargao Island, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Island. The agency warned against sea travel for all types of vessels in the aforementioned areas.
Meanwhile, Public Storm Signal No. 1 has been raised in Masbate, Ticao Island, Romblon, Sorsogon, Northern Leyte, Biliran Island, Bohol, Cebu, Northern Negros, Northern Samar, Western Samar, Panay Island, Guimaras Island, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin Island.
Pagasa categorized sea travel for small vessels and fishing boats in the covered areas as risky.
“Ramon,” which has gained strength with maximum sustained winds of 65kph and gustiness of up to 80kph, is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall at about 10-30mm per hour (Pedring was at 15-25mm per hour).
Residents in low lying and mountainous areas have been alerted against possible storm surges, flashfloods and landslides. Meanwhile, people in coastal areas have been notified about the likelihood of storm surges and big waves.
