News Update US man slain in Philippine robbery: Police

MANILA (AFP) - An American living in the Philippines was killed by robbers who broke into his home on Christmas Eve, police said on Sunday.

James Thomas Kakara, 61, was attacked on Saturday at his home in Tagaytay, a hill resort near Manila, national police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz said.

Police did not specify how he was killed, but said about 206,000 pesos (S$6,100) in cash, his mobile phone and his laptop computer were taken.

Kakara was from California and moved to the Philippines after marrying a Filipina woman, Tagaytay police officer Leonard Carandang told AFP by telephone.
