(PHILIPPINE DAILY INQUIRER/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in Afghanistan are using social media networks to warn relatives and other Filipinos against attempts by illegal recruitment syndicates to lure victims to high-paying but phantom jobs in the central Asian state.
In a statement, the Filipinos in Afghanistan (FIA), said that three groups of illegal recruiters are operating in many provinces in the Philippines like Bataan, Batangas and Nueva Ecija.
Emmanuel Geslani, spokesperson of the FIA in Manila, said some OFWs have already been duped by the illegal recruiters. Some of the victims posted their bad experiences in Facebook while others used it to exchange information and conduct verifications.
Geslani said former workers in Iraq and Afghanistan were among those lured to non-existent jobs with some of them charged 150,000 pesos (S$4,450.6) for jobs at the Kandahar Airfield.
