News Update 5 dead in Philippine shipyard accident: Police

ANILA (AFP) - Five workers were killed and eight others injured on Friday when a metal bridge collapsed at a shipyard in an industrial area north of the Philippine capital, police said.

'The metal gave way and the workers on it (the bridge) fell. The metal also hit some workers below them,' chief inspector Arnel Dial, police chief of Subic town told AFP.

Five people were killed in the accident, he added.

The accident occurred at the Keppel Subic Shipyard as the workers were repairing a cargo ship, provincial police chief, senior superintendent Francisco Santiago, and a company official said.
