Nearly two weeks after he was gunned down in an ambush in Manila, an official of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines was finally laid to rest in his hometown in Aklan province Sunday.
PUP vice president for administration Augustus Cezar was buried at the Lezo Municipal Cemetery in Lezo town in Aklan, according to a report by radio dzBB's Aklan affiliate.
Many of Cezar's relatives and friends took part in the funeral, with many going to Aklan from Metro Manila, the report said.
The report also said at least 28 people representing the PUP attended the funeral.
Cezar, who was gunned down by motorcycle-riding men in Sta. Mesa, Manila, had grown up in Lezo town.
Several of the sympathizers said they were saddened by the death of Cezar, who had helped many poor but deserving students in Lezo get an education.
The report added many of the scholars who have graduated could not believe he is gone. — RSJ
