Two "newbie" Coast Guard operatives helping rescue victims of floods in Bulacan ended up needing rescue, after they fell overboard from their rubber boat on Sunday.
A report by radio dzBB's Allan Gatus said the two Coast Guard operatives fell overboard while their rubber boat was maneuvering in a flood-hit area.
The report said the two, who were from the Coast Guard's Special Operations Group, failed to hold on when the rubber boat surged forward.
It was the first time they went on such a rescue mission, the report quoted the two as saying.
Colleagues rescued the two and had them return to the Coast Guard's command post.
A separate report on government-run dzRB radio said the incident occurred in Calumpit town, one of the worst-hit areas.
Typhoon Pedring (Nesat) had caused floods in several parts of Central Luzon, including Bulacan and Pampanga.
Meanwhile, some residents in Calumpit had been reduced to begging near the area, according to a separate report by dzBB's Sam Nielsen. — LBG
