News Update Arroyo drops Singapore schedule, may try to leave Friday

Former President Gloria Arroyo has canceled her Thursday appointment to see a doctor in Singapore as she is feeling “weak," her spokesperson said.

But Arroyo’s spokesperson Elena Bautista-Horn said the former president's camp is not discounting the possibility of attempting anew to leave the country on Friday for “medical" reasons.

“What is sure is that she will not attempt to leave the country today. She said she feels weak after what happened Tuesday," Horn said in an interview on dzBB radio.

On Tuesday night, immigration agents at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) stopped Arroyo from leaving the country even after the Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order against a watch-list order on her.

The high court is to hold an en banc session on Friday to discuss the matter.

Horn said Arroyo canceled her Thursday appointment because they may not make it there for the day. She said there is no confirmed schedule yet for a new appointment.

She added that as of midnight Wednesday, the former president was in bed, receiving dextrose and intravenous fluids.

“On Wednesday morning she was walking around the room but as of Wednesday midnight she had to lie down due to the intravenous connections," she said.

But she said the Arroyo camp will insist on the former leader’s right to travel, adding they want to leave soonest once they get a confirmation of the rescheduled appointment.

“Once we get a confirmation we would want to leave immediately. We will stand by Arroyo’s constitutional right to travel," she said.

Asked about the chances of Arroyo attempting to leave again on Friday, Bautista-Horn said it is a possibility.

“Once her blood pressure stabilizes, there is a good chance we will consider having her travel on Friday," she said. — LBG
