News Update Abu Walid Captured

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Philippine authorities captured Wednesday Abu Walid, a Muslim extremist linked to a kidnapping case in Basilan, southern Philippines. Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang, spokesman for the Armed Forces' Western Mindanao Command, said the police and military apprehended Walid in Zamboanga city. The arrest was effectd by virtue of a warrant arrest issued by the regional trial court of Basilan province. Walid is a member of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf group, which has links to al-Qaida and Jemaah Islamiyah group. The Abu Sayyaf has been involved in several kidnappings and bombings.
