MANILA, Feb 8 - The Philippines' statistics office released unemployment data for 2010 on Tuesday:

NOTE: Underemployment is defined as those with jobs but who want to work more.

- The data is based on the average estimates of the four Labour Force Survey rounds by the statistics office for 2010 and 2009. The last quarterly survey for October, released in December, showed the jobless rate was 7.1 percent.

KEY POINTS:

- There were 2.86 million unemployed people in the Philippines in 2010, up 1 percent from 2.83 million in 2009. The highest unemployment rate by region was 11.6 percent in the National Capital Region, which includes Manila.

- The statistics office said the total labour force reached 38.9 million in 2010 against 37.9 million a year earlier.

- Of the estimated 36 million people employed in 2010, 51.8 percent were in the services sector and a third were in agriculture.

- The number of underemployed workers rose to 6.76 million from 6.69 million in 2009.

- The economy grew at its fastest in more than three decades in 2010, driven by strong industrial output and a recovery in the farm sector in the final quarter of the year. [ID:nSGE70U00F]
