MANILA, Philippines - Military personnel can expect the third installment of salary increases this coming July despite the decision of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to cut the budget on personnel services in the Armed Forces, a military official said Thursday. Armed Forces spokesman Brig. Gen. Jose Mabanta Jr. said the fourth batch of salary increase for the soldiers will still be implemented in July 2012 as mandated by the Salary Standardization Law III.
The forthcoming pay increase, reforms in fund disbursement and procurement, upgrade in equipment and supplies are among the reasons Mabanta believed that there will be no demoralization in the ranks in the wake of the allegations of corruption in the military. "The Armed Forces will be getting our third and fourth salary increases by July 2011 and by July 2012 thereby bringing our salary to 100 percent as compared to four years ago," Mabanta said in a press conference in the Palace. "With that in mind, I don't see really why there will be demoralization," he added. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
