News Update Carnapping incidence in Northern Mindanano drops 51%

THE incidence of carnapping in Northern Mindanao notably decreased by 51 percent in the third quarter of 2011, down from 182 cases recorded in the same quarter last year to only 89 this year, a police official reported.
Police Superintendent Leony Roy Ga, officer-in-charge of the Regional Operations and Plans Division (ROPD) of Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10), said the decline in carnapping as well as robbery incidence was largely due to the strategic deployment of more officers in crime-prone areas.
In a media forum, Ga said total crime volume from September 23 to November 30 this year -- when Police Chief Superintendent Jufel C. Adriatico took over -- was 3,932, down by 12 percent compared to the 4,460 recorded in the same period last year.
Data provided by PRO-10 also showed that theft topped the list of index crimes with 1,393 cases, followed by physical injury and robbery with 623 and 457 cases, respectively.
Among the police offices in the region, Misamis Oriental and Iligan City posted marked decreases in crime volume by 28 percent and 23 percent, respectively.
In terms of average monthly crime rate (AMCR), the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan registered notable declines by 14 percent and 12 percent, respectively.
Iligan City also had the highest crime solution efficiency rate (CSER) with 24 percent, followed by Bukidnon with 19 percent, Misamis Occidental with 17 percent and Misamis Oriental with 16 percent.
The region’s CSER, on the other hand, improved by 7.4 percent from nine percent in 2010 to 16 percent.
Ga said crimes cleared means that suspects were identified and cases are filed in courts, while crimes solved signifies that the suspects were arrested and cases are filed in courts. (Michael Andrew W. Yu/Apipa Bagumbaran)
