Corona in 'possible heart attack', confined at ICU

After a 'hypoglycemic episode', Chief Justice Renato Corona has been admitted to an intensive care unit. Corona is in Medical City in Pasig early Wednesday morning due to a possible heart attack, Supreme Court spokesperson Midas Marquez said. In a radio interview, Marquez said a blood test on Corona showed he had elevated Troponin T levels and the diagnosis is a possible heart attack. Marquez said he is not sure if the chief justice will be able to take the witness stand on Wednesday as ordered by the impeachment court. He assured that Corona wanted to continue with his testimonies but his doctors were against it. "Bago ako umalis, sinigurado ko kung ano ba talaga ang kaniyang nararamdaman at kung tingin niya at makakapunta siya sa impeachment kanina. Talagang gusto na niyang matapos ito," he said. "Medyo tumututol na yung mga duktor na kausap namin. Sinasabi ko nga na baka puwedeng payagan niyo at humarap ng sandali at ipaliwanag iyung kaniyang kundisyon," he added. Marquez said Corona's doctors are expected to issue a medical bulletin around 8 or 9 a.m. Meanwhile, Senators will check whether Corona is fit to testify on Wednesday. "The Senate will verify his (Corona's) condition," says Senator Tito Sotto. Senator Francis Escudero meanwhile added: "We will have to check on his medical condition. If indeed he is too ill to continue, we might not be able to continue with his direct testimony and cross examination."
