NEWS FROM THE PROVINCE

..ILIGAN CITY - At least 1,000 families will soon benefit from the P7 million grant for the sustainable provision of water in this city's resettlement site for victims of typhoon "Sendong." Under the "Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig Para sa Lahat" (Salintubig) program being implemented by the Region-10 office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the victims of "Sendong" here will be provided with safe and potable water supply, which will start next month. The victims of "Sendong" that are currently at the resettlement site in Cagayan de Oro City also benefited from the Salintubig program. (Mike Crismundo)

NUTRITION PLAN

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - The regional nutrition council members have drafted the 2012-2016 Regional Nutrition Strategic Action Plan (RNSAP) for Northern Mindanao. Topping the drafted RNSAP is the nutrition efforts and actions addressing the nutrition problems among children and pregnant mothers. The workshop process includes the presentation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2011-2016, and the Northern Mindanao Nutrition Report 2012, lectures, small group workshops, and plenary discussions. This move is expected to contribute to the total economic growth and development of the region and of the country as well. (Mike Crismundo)

AGRI PRODUCTION

GENERAL LUNA, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte - A big number of fisherfolk and farmers in Surigao del Norte, especially on the fast-growing "Paradise Island" of Siargao, continue to receive support from the government. Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Proceso Alcala started his three-day swing on this island and the province to personally talk to the fisherfolk, farmers, and local government unit officials on how to increase fishery and farm production. Alcala will also spearhead the spreading of more techniques and other modern technology on farming and fishery with the agriculture and fishery sectors here. (Mike Crismundo)

CAMIGUIN TOURISM

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin - This municipality, the capital town of the island province of Camiguin, included a photo gallery of the town's prime tourist destinations last week as part of the draft of their tourism code. The code will contain information on transportation access, places to visit, and where to stay on this part of the island. The new set of pictures in the photo gallery features existing and potential tourist spots, as well as historical landmarks, and will soon fill the town's tourism pages, brochures, and postcards. This town already accomplished its tourism master plan. (Mike Crismundo)

PROCESSING PLANT

LAAK, Compostela Valley (PNA) - The Mindanao Rural Development Program (MRDP) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the provincial government of Compostela Valley are set to put up a P14.93-million crumb rubber processing plant in this town. MRDP program director Lealyn A. Ramos said the project will be the first-ever rubber processing plant and it is among the big-ticket projects of MRDP to support the production and marketing capability of the region as it gears to increase rubber production in the Davao Region.
