MANILA (Reuters) - Philippine President Benigno Aquino said on Monday his government is expected to file this year corruption charges against officials involved in the misuse of public funds and abuse of power.
Delivering his second State of the Nation address, Aquino promised to submit bills to Congress that would provide adequate pension to soldiers, and compensation to human rights victims under the Marcos dictatorship.
Aquino's net satisfaction rating fell in the second quarter but remains strongly positive, based on the latest opinion poll by the Social Weather Stations last month, amid criticism his administration has been lacklustre in its first year in office.
Aquino, the only son of democracy heroine Cory Aquino, was swept to power last year by an electorate energised by his anti-corruption platform and nostalgia for his mother, who died in August 2009.
