News Update Gunmen abduct businesswoman in south Philippines

MANILA, Philippines (AP) - Officials say gunmen have abducted a Filipino businesswoman in the southern Philippines.

Regional police chief Elpidio de Asis says three assailants forced 34-year-old Luisita Galvez into a van after dragging her from her beauty salon in Ipil township in Zamboanga Sibugay province late on Sunday.

He said on Monday that earlier reports had identified her as Luisita Morrison, wife of a British national working for an oil company in Malaysia, but that police later learned they were not married.

Officials say the local crisis committee headed by the town's mayor has been convened. Police and military units are investigating.
