News Update Expect rainfall the whole week - Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines - Most parts of the country will continue to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains this week, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said today.

Graciano Yumul, Science undersecretary and concurrent officer-in-charge of Pagasa, said the northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” and the tail-end of a cold front will be the dominant weather system in the country in the next five days.

“The northeast monsoon will be the dominant system over Northern and Central Luzon while the tail-end of a cold front will still prevail over Southern Luzon and the Visayas,” Yumul said.

Yumul said residents in Northern Mindanao, meanwhile, will experience heavy rains starting yesterday until Tuesday.

No tropical cyclone, however, is expected to enter the country this week, he said.

Continuous heavy rains triggered by the northeast monsoon and tail-end of a cold front have caused flashfloods and flooding in 21 provinces in Regions IV-B, V, VII, VIII, X, XI, Caraga and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao recently, leaving at least 33 persons dead and 186,856 families affected. - By Helen M.
