Manila (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN) - Starting next week, members of the media covering the Senate wearing rubber slippers and rubber shoes, and faded, torn or rugged-looking denim jeans will be barred from plenary sessions and committee hearings.
The "strict" implementation of a dress code for Senate media was contained in a memorandum issued this week by the Senate's Public Relations and Information Bureau chief Raymundo Corro.
Loafers, clogs, sneakers, boots, flats, dress heels and leather deck-type shoes are allowed in the Senate but "strictly no wearing of rubber slippers and rubber shoes," read the memo.
For male media personnel, the appropriate attire listed in the memo were slacks, pants, suit pants, denim jeans, collared, short or long sleeved polo shorts.
For female, the attire should be slacks, pants, suit pants, denim jeans, casual dresses and skirts (knee-length or below the knee), collared shirts, blouse or classic sleeveless tops with a cardigan or jacket.
"Denim pants may be allowed provided that it is not faded, torn or rugged-looking and should be worn with collared shirts," it noted.
The implementation of the dress code in the Senate was prompted by an "observation of senators and their staff that certain media personnel are not appropriately attired during official proceedings."
"The Senate is a highly respected institution, and as such, we must accord it the respect that it duly deserves," said the memo.
