News Update Airport installs system to avoid bird strike

A BIRD audio system (BAS) was recently installed at the Daniel Z. Romualdez (DZR) Airport to avoid occurrence of bird strike.

While the BAS was installed last January, it is still on testing period, which will last until the end of the year, Alfredo Destura, area information officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap), said.

“We are still in the process of determining the accuracy of the BAS in so far as the sounds of birds it produces with that of the species of the birds that are seen at the airport’s landing area,” Destura said.

Mars Macanda of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Eastern Visayas said they have furnished the Caap of the list of bird species that are often seen at the DZR Airport.
