News Update UP student leader attacked, in critical condition

Four men attacked and robbed a student leader inside a student council office of the University of the Philippines Diliman on Wednesday. Lordei Camille Anjuli Hina, who is secretary-general of UP Center for Nationalist Studies and a fourth year political science major, is now in critical condition, Yahoo! Southeast Asia has learned. Student newspaper Philippine Collegian reported Hina was stabbed with an ice pick just above the left temple, fracturing her skull and knocking her unconscious. The report said the UP Diliman police have arrested one of the suspects, a certain Carlo Pecayo who will face charges of robbery and frustrated homicide. Pecayo’s three accomplices are still at large, the report added. The police recovered Hina’s bag, two laptops, and ice pick from the suspect. According to Hina’s friend who was with the victim before the attack, the suspects introduced themselves as tattoo artists and would like to apply for a booth in the upcoming UP Fair. The two students gave the number of the officer-in-charge for the fair booths to the suspects but Pecayo insisted that he would just wait for the OIC outside the office, the Collegian report noted. Hina, left alone at the office, reportedly sent text messages to her friend asking for help. "Umakyat ka na rito. Andito na naman si kuya. Ang dami niyang tanong, hindi ko naman alam," read one of the text messages as quoted in the student paper. When Hina’s friend returned to the office, the victim was already sprawled on the floor, her face and upper body drenched in blood. The Collegian reported that UP is beefing up its security measures inside the campus
