Just Ask - Singapore Airshow 2010, Currency rate and Shopping

Hi Johmar

The Singapore Airshow is one of the world’s top three airshows and Asia’s largest aerospace and defence exhibition. First held in 2008, the biennial event will return in February 2010. Visitors of all ages will enjoy one of the world’s best aircraft displays at the Changi Exhibition Centre, masterful aerobatic maneuvers and fairground attractions comprising food, shopping and interactive games. In Singapore just take the MRT at Changi station, there is no jeepenery in Singapore ,  mostly aircon buses and taxi.

The currency exchange rate is about $S1 to Php 32 peso, if you holding BDO card you can withdraw your money out from almost 60 % of the ATM machine there, I had personally withdraw money from Citibank and Standard Chartered using BDO card.  ATM machine were located almost every corner of major shopping city, Mrt and exhibition center. Moreover, not like in Philippine you can ensure that offline and power blackout is a very rare occurrence in Singapore. Unlike in the province area where power blackout is almost become part of a lifestyle here.

Some of the information Immigration & Customs

The importation into Singapore of any chewing gum is prohibited under the Regulation of Imports and Exports (Chewing Gum) Regulations. The prohibition on the import of chewing gum except for those of therapeutic value is absolute. Therefore, no allowance is given for any person to import them for personal consumption. Under the same regulation, when goods are brought or caused to be brought into Singapore from any place which is outside Singapore, they are deemed to be imported. This is regardless whether the goods are for commercial or trade purposes.

Singapore withdrew duty-free privileges on tobacco products, including cigarettes, from 1 January 1991. The measure was part of the overall strategy to curb smoking in Singapore on grounds of public health. Travellers who have small quantities of cigarettes or tobacco products are, therefore, required to declare them when seeking Customs clearance. The goods may be brought into Singapore only upon payment of Customs duty and Goods & Services Tax (GST).

Like most countries, Singapore also operates the Red and Green Channel system at all entry checkpoints including the international airport. By electing the Green Channel, you are deemed to declare that you do not have anything to declare to the authorities. If in doubt, please seek clearance at the Red Channel. Alternatively, you can email your queries to Customs at customs_feedback@customs.gov.sg. And remember unlike in Philippine money do not solve problem in Singapore custom or might put you in more hot soup.

Shopping mallsAmong Singapore’s many malls, VivoCity is the largest. Just a 5-minute jaunt from Sentosa (take the Sentosa Express light rail system), it boasts of more than 300 retailers, an outdoor amphitheater, a 20,000 sq.ft. open plaza and a 300m harbour front promenade - making it Singapore’s largest retail, entertainment and lifestyle destination.
For more focused shopping, be sure to check out Singapore’s IT shopping scene that’s jam-packed along the aisles of Funan Digital Mall and Sim Lim Square. A wide range of computer-related goods and accessories are scattered across different levels of both buildings. Comparison the computer notebook is much cheaper than in Philippine and they seems to carry the latest top of the range
Gadget geeks will find the area around Funan Digital Mall worth further exploration. Across the road at The Adelphi, audiophiles can find a rich number of shops dealing in respected hi-fi brands, while Peninsula Plaza is home to established camera shops such as Cathay Photo Store. The million dollar question is not where to shop but  do we have a million dollar to shop till we drop. But the conversion can be a disadvantage especially from Peso to dollar, it seems that every is so "Mahal". When is a good time to shop? Every day is a good day to shop in Singapore. Finally, do check out lucky plaza where most of the Filipino chill out during weekend you will definitely right at home. Sige
