I love pasta as much as the next Singaporean but it isn’t always cheap here on our sunny shores. In fact, even meals at supposedly lower range “fastfood"ish outlets like Pastamania can cost over $10 at one seating. So, I’m always excited when I find cheap pasta of decent quality. It’s even better when I find out that’s of great quality.

Located at one of the kiosks in IMM (which, for those of you who have not been there for years, has now transformed from some slump mall into a bustling haven of shops that would satisfy most any Singapore bargain-hunter), the oddly-named Spagetti Too sits approximately a dozen (so space isn’t always easy to find) and serves up a menu of Italian food, including pastas and desserts, at pretty affordable prices.

I went for one of their all-day, everyday combo sets which included a dish of BBQ chicken leg pasta, soup and a drink (the first time I went, I had another combo which included a dessert, a really good mango cake).

Their soup was surprisingly high standard. Despite looking like the standard Campbell fair, it was thick and creamy and packed full of mushroom taste, making a perfect start to the meal.

The pasta itself was great. The BBQ sauce was a tad cheap-tasting but complimented the chicken nicely and added a sweet, salty tinge to the meal. The chicken leg was huge and took me a while to work through. The pasta serving, too, was much bigger than expected. Littered with various herbs and spices (which gave it a very strong taste, which I like), the amount of spaghetti included almost spilled over the (rather sizeable) dish.
While I liked my main course a lot, my friends had slightly more mediocre experiences.
One ordered the seafood baked rice (another option for the combo meal), which was also of a hearty sized and had loads of ingredients tossed in but had hard rice and a slightly lacklustre blandness.

Another had the salmon hot plate combo. While, again, the salmon was really large, the gravy was watery and was also a tad bland for the meal.
The service at the outlet was great and friendly, although the ambience was a tad noisy (which can’t be helped, I guess, looking at its location).
So, despite some underwhelming dishes, for those of you who are dropping by IMM for a shopping trip and want a filling, value-for-money meal (the meals cost us less than $9 each), be sure to head down to Spagetti Too and get a combo meal. Just remember to stick with the BBQ chicken leg pasta. And, while I didn’t get to try much, I’ve heard the desserts there are affordable and really good too.
