CANNES - IN A latest move to get Singapore-made digital content onto the world stage, the Government will fund worthy animation projects by a company from any country as long as they have a Singapore partner.

Winning projects for the Internet, television or movies can be funded up to $5 million each, said the Media Development Authority (MDA) yesterday in launching the International Animation Fund (IAF) at the annual MIPTV in Cannes, a marketplace for digital content.

Products for television will be distributed by FremantleMedia, a leading British-based television production company which has produced popular TV shows such as American Idol and Baywatch.

Distributors will be sourced for projects on film or other platforms.

Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, Rear-Admiral (NS) Lui Tuck Yew, said: 'Similar to how Singapore once made its name as a well-known entrepot for ships plying the historical maritime silk route, today we have built our reputation as an East-West gateway where companies can come to finance, make and trade media content and services.

'Our strategy is actually a very simple one: We co-produce and collaborate with the world, for the world.'
