MANILA, Philippines – The brother of the dismissed policeman who killed eight hostages in Manila will be criminally charged for his actions during the hostage crisis yesterday, a police official said.
In a radio interview, Chief Superintendent Leocadio Santiago, National Capital Region Police Office head, said Senior Police Officer 2 Gregorio Mendoza will be slapped with inciting resistance of arrest when he even egged on his brother, former senior inspector Rolando Mendoza, not to surrender.
"Instead of urging his brother to surrender, he even did the opposite," Santiago said.
Gregorio provoked his brother not to give himself in if authorities would not return his gun, according to Santiago.
Santiago said that at this point, the police ground commander decided to isolate Gregorio to prevent him from making situation more volatile.
He said they will be probing whether there were lapses in the police operation during the crisis.
