News Update Manila is also feeling cold

ANILA, Philippines - Manila residents are also feeling the Siberia cold breeze.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the temperature dropped to 22 degrees Celsius from 29 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

Weather forecaster Buddy Javier explained the cold breeze felt by the rest of Manila on Monday morning is caused by the high pressure system from Siberia accompanied by the cool northeast wind or the “hanging Amihan.”

He said the temperature will further drop in the coming days, even lower than the 18.5 degrees Celsius that Quezon City felt last January 5.

“We’re at the peak season, which is from January to February. We’re still in the middle of January,” he said.

He noted Manila may also experience the rains felt last Saturday, which caused heavy traffic in major thoroughfares.

“If there is a convergence between the northeastern and easterly winds, a convergence will be created,” he added.

This convergence was what happened on Saturday, he said.
