News Update Kalinga gov sued for attacking broadcaster

KALINGA, Philippines - Broadcaster Jerome Tabanganay has filed physical injury and grave threat charges against Kalinga Governor Jocel Baac.
The case stemmed from Baac's alleged assault of the Radyo ng Bayan broadcaster inside the dzRK radio station.
In his affidavit of complaint, Tabanganay said Baac, who was accompanied by heavily armed bodyguards during the incident, also threatened to kill him.
Secretary Herminio "Sonny" Coloma of the Presidential Communications Operations Office had called on Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo to investigate the incident.
Coloma denounced the alleged attack and promised to help Tabanganay.
The Palace official said he is also considering filing an administrative case against the Kalinga province official.
Robredo, meanwhile, said they have finished investigating the incident and have submitted their findings to President Benigno Aquino III.
The DILG chief declined to reveal the results of the probe. However, Robredo said Baac faces serious sanctions if he is found guilty of attacking Tabanganay.
The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), the industry association of broadcast media practitioners, has also denounced the incident.
Baac earlier denied attacking Tabanganay, whom he accused of committing irresponsible reporting. - Report from Butch Mendizabal,
