News Update Suspected NPA rebels attack Negros farm

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines - Suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels attacked a farm in Negros Occidental province on Tuesday, the military said.
At least 20 communist guerillas took part in the attack on Hacienda Sta. Teresita, which sent residents of Barangay Alicante in EB Magalona town fleeing for their lives.
The rebels fired their guns and torched a farm tractor during the incident, according to the Philippine Army.
There were no injuries reported.
Army officials said they are sure that the NPA was behind the attack.
Communist rebels were also reportedly behind the destruction of 2 other tractors in the town last May 31.
The NPA attacked the farm because its owner allegedly refused to pay "revolutionary taxes" to the communist group.
The farm owner has declined to comment on the incident.
Government troops are now pursuing the rebels. - Report from Yasmin Dormido
