The death toll from Typhoon Mina (Nanmadol) rose to six as of Saturday night, with three killed when a heap of garbage fell on them after a dumpsite wall in Baguio City in Cordillera collapsed, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
In its 8 p.m. update, the NDRRMC said the fatalities included two from Ilocos, three from Cordillera, and one from Bicol Region.
At least seven were injured while six people remained missing, including three from Ilocos and three from Cordillera, it added.
The NDRRMC said three of the latest fatalities suffocated after a retaining wall of the Irisan Dumpsite collapsed and a pile of garbage buried them.
It identified the three as Revillar Flores, 13; Apolinario Flores, 10; and Floro Sulliven, 32.
At least two others – John Flores, 24, and Franco Flores, 15 – were injured in the incident and were brought to the Baguio General Hospital.
Earlier, Reajen Bautista, 6, and John Rey Bautista, 5, of San Fabian, Pangasinan, were killed after a landslide buried them alive.
The sixth fatality was Nelson Vergara, 68, a fisherman previously reported missing off Catanduanes in Bicol.
Coastal residents retrieved his body at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, the NDRRMC said.
Still missing are: Romeo Dang-alan Jr., Matue village, Gregorio del Pilar, Ilocos Sur, swept by strong current in Buaya River;
Roger Marqued, of San Emilio in Ilocos Sur, swept by strong current in Buaya River;
Apolonio Licupa, 70, Liman West, Rizal, Kalinga (accidentally fell from a wooden bridge while in his farm to harvest vegetables);
Dagul Joaquin, 23, Dilong Tubo in Abra, carried away by water current while watching their fish cage, when the river swelled;
Gregorio Padua, 29, Dilong Tubo in Abra, carried away by water current while watching their fish cage, when the river swelled; and

Families affected
The NDRRMC said Mina had affected 5,242 families or 24,358 people in 44 villages in 10 towns and two cities in six provinces.
Of these, 314 families or 1,294 people are being served inside seven evacuation centers.
Meanwhile, at least 25 people were stranded in Sta. Ana, Cagayan, 23 of them bound for Maconacon in Isabela and two bound for Calayan Island in Cagayan.
At least 12 houses were destroyed and 16 damaged.
Floods, tornadoes
In Ilocos, Brgys. Boyboy and Libnaoan in Piddig, Ilocos Norte, are flooded.
In Cordillera flash floods hit Burnham Park, front of The Mansion and Wright Park in Baguio City.
A tornado hit Brgy. 16 in Santo Tomas village in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, damaging one house.
Another tornado hit Brgy. San isidro in Sarrat, damaging 18 houses, two of them totally.
Affected roads and bridges
Ilocos Sur
- Tagudin-Cervantes Road (Km 362-km 365, Cadso-Bessang Section) is not passable to all types of vehicles due to series of major and minor slides. Maintenance crew from DPWH and District Engineers are on site to clear slides using road grader.
La Union
- Santa Barbara, Agoo, La Union Manila-North-Road (MNR), km 235+500-km 236 is not passable to all types of vehicles due to floodwaters.
- Namboongan Section, Santo Tomas, La Union is not passable to light vehicles due to floodwaters.
- Agoo-Baguio Road, Lloren, Tubao and Palina Section, only one lane is passable due to ongoing construction.
- Kennon Road, Camp 1, Rosario, La Union is not passable due to landslides.
Pangasinan
- Pangasinan-La Union Road (km 395+500, Tocok Section and km 398+000, Mabilao Section, San Fabian) is not passable to all types of vehicles due to 0.15m deep floodwaters.
Cagayan
- Dugo-San Vicente Road, Racat, Sta. Ana, Cagayan is closed to traffic due to fallen trees.
Benguet
- Kennon, Camp 1 and Camp 4, Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya (Guesset Section and Acnip Section), Gurel-Bokod-Kabayan Road (Bugaw Section), Baguio-Bontoc Road (Ambasador Tublay Section and Topdac, Atok km 279-700, and Cotcot Section) are closed, road clearing operations are ongoing.
Mt. Province
- Mt. Province-Nueva Vizcaya (Sukit Section), Baguio-Bontoc Road (Balitian Section and Tabbao Section), Mt. Province-Ilocos Sur Road via Tue (Bauko-Cabunagan
Section) are closed.
- Tabulin-Bantig-Natorin-Paracells road is open for light vehicles only, clearing operations are ongoing.
Kalinga
- Gonogon Section (km. 482+060) is passable to light vehicles only.
- Balani Section (km. 483+240) has one lane passable.
Power lines
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said three major transmission lines (La Trinidad-Bulalacao 69 kilo-volt line, Solana-Tabuk 69 kv line, and Tuguegarao-Magapit-Camalanuigan-Sta. Ana 69 kv line) tripped Saturday morning.
In Cordillera, power interruptions hit many areas in Baguio City, Atok and Mankayan in Benguet due to damaged lines.
A wide brownout was experienced in Mt. Province since 10 a.m. Saturday.
Flora, Sta. Marcela and LUna towns in Apayao province also experienced electrical problems.
Meanwhile, at least 15 domestic flights were canceled due to bad weather. — LBG
