DILG Finds Partner In Bid To Help LGUs Protect Kids

MANILA, Philippines --- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has partnered with World Vision Development Foundation (WVDF) in helping local government units (LGUs) protect children. The WVDF is a child-focused, development relief, and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families, and communities to overcome poverty and injustice, and serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender. It recognizes the value of establishing mechanisms that would ensure and promote children's rights and welfare in the community. Further, it operates through its Area Development Programs (ADPs) located in selected areas in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Because of the WVDF partnership with the DILG, local chief executives have been urged to enhance the functionality of their Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPCs). The WVDF should be considered as an NGO representative to the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC), City Council for Protection of Children (CPCP), Municipal Council for Protection of Children (MCPC), and Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC). It should also be considered a Civil Society Organization (CSO) member to the inter-agency monitoring task force at the municipal, city, provincial, and regional level which evaluates the functionality of the LCPCs. This partnership has been agreed upon even during the time of the late Secretary Jesse M. Robredo. The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the two was signed last Jan. 12
