Northern Mindanao’s energy sales boost by 2.17% in 2Q of 2012

..NORTHERN Mindanao’s energy sales during the second quarter of 2012 reached 582,475,224 kilowatt-hours (kwh), an increase of 2.17 percent adding 12.4 million more kwh to the energy sales of the region last year, according to the National Economic Development Authority in Northern Mindanao (Neda). Data from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) revealed that Bukidnon increased (3.63 percent) with the 65,278,118 kwh it sold this year from 62,994,282 kwh last year. Same is true to Camiguin, which increased (5.02 percent) with the 4,883,548 kwh it sold this year from 4,650,298 kwh last year. Lanao del Norte, with the highest percentage increase of 27.19 percent, boosted its energy sales from the 115,398,052 kwh it sold last year to 146,776,409 kwh this year, due to the operations of the Maria Cristina Chemical Industries (MCCI) in Iligan City. However, the remaining provinces both posted negative growth in energy sales with Misamis Occidental obtaining -0.57 percent of percentage change from the 41,560,875 kwh it sold last year to 41,323,711 kwh this year. Misamis Oriental, although with the highest percentage share of 55.66 percent among all the provinces in Region 10, had a 6.16 percent drop in energy sales with the 345,511,899 kwh it sold last year to 324,213,438 kwh this year.
