PROVINCE OF CEBU - Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has allocated P5 million to aid the more than 3,000 fire victims in Barangay T. Padilla in Cebu City.
According to Garcia, this is the first time under her administration that the province has extend financial aid as an offshoot of a disaster, although in the past, her administration gave P5 million to Barangay Lahug to help the village build its own school building after the project was cancelled by former Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
She said that if the provincial government is kind enough to help those from outside the province, how much more those living in the city and "neighbors" of Museo Sugbo, where the Capitol recently opened new galleries as part of the celebration of its 441st founding anniversary.
The fire scene is located just across the museum.
Meanwhile, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has instructed the city's Department of Engineering and Public Works and the City Planning and Development Office along with other concerned departments to re-block the whole area that was hit by fire last Monday before residents will be allowed to rebuild their houses.
Under the re-blocking, Rama wants existing roads and alleys to be widened, enough for firetrucks and other emergency vehicles to pass in times of emergencies.
Should there be a need to create new roads to increase the accessibility in the area, Rama told the engineers to include it in the plan.
