News Update Insurgency awareness in schools intensified

CEBU CITY -- In its aim to prevent students from joining militant groups that could compromise their future, the Civil Relations Service (CRS) of the Central Command (Centcom) here has been actively giving talks on Government's national security programs amongst students in high-schools, colleges and universities in the Visayas.

Joy de la Peña of Centcom's Civil Relations Group (CRG) bared that the Command has been sending out communication to different tertiary schools for the conduct of lectures and seminars to make students aware of groups that are linked to the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA).

"Since the AFP has been critical about student infestation by the CPP-NPA, which, in many instances, have already resulted in fatal incidents, we are now on an intensified campaign to prevent more victims, especially among the studentry," said De la Peña.

She also said that during the CRG's lecture, information on groups with clear links with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) are given students as part of the Centcom's preventive measures.

Recently, the Centcom conducted lectures at the University of the Philippines (UP)-Cebu campus and Cebu Technical School, while the CRG visited close to 20 schools in Samar and Negros, both priority areas in the anti-insurgency drive of the Command.
