News Update Lim calls for review of Manila hostage-taker's case

MANILA, Philippines – Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim has called for a review of the case involving a disgruntled former police officer who hijacked a tourist bus with 25 people on board today at the Luneta Grandstand.

In a radio interview, Lim said dismissed Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza should be given a chance to be reinstated if he proves himself in the service.

"Let's see if he deserves to be reinstated and prove himself," Lim said.

The mayor said he thinks Mendoza hijacked the tourist bust to attract attention. The former cop is currently facing drug charges. - By Dennis Carcamo
