SANTOL, La Union - A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman and his alleged cohort were nabbed by police and anti-narcotics operatives after yielding at least 100 kilos of dried marijuana at a checkpoint in Barangay Ramut, here, last Thursday.
Police identified the suspects as Marvin Ligawen, 20, a student and SK chairman, who lives in Barangay Remit, here, and his neighbor friend, Willy Madiwo.
Police said the seized marijuana in brick form had a total market value of P2.5 million.
It has been turned over to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory for the conduct of laboratory tests.
However, the driver of the tricycle used by the suspects in transporting the marijuana bricks managed to elude arrest.
Police said the seized marijuana originated from the tri-boundaries of La Union, Benguet and Ilocos Sur.
Investigators said the duo was on their way to San Fernando City, this province, where a buyer was waiting for the contraband.
