News Update Four People Killed in Jeep-Truck collision in Davao

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (Xinhua) - At least four people were killed and 21 injured following a road accident Friday here, the southern Philippine city, police said. The accident happened when a passenger jeepney collided with a ten-wheeler truck, Senior Superintendent Rene Aspera, city police chief, said. The jeepney, packed with passengers tried to overtake another vehicle when it rammed to an oncoming truck, crushing most of the victims who were pinned between the two vehicles, Aspera said. Two of the jeep's passengers were killed instantly while two others expired while undergoing treatment. The jeep driver who sustained minor injuries is now under police custody. Bad roads, poorly maintained vehicles and reckless driving are the causes of most vehicular accidents in the Philippines which kill thousands every year
