MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) asked residents in one region and four provinces to brace for continuous heavy rains, which may trigger flash floods and landslides in these areas.
According to PAGASA, the wind convergence will continue to affect Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao today, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
It said rains will become widespread over Bicol Region, and the provinces of Dinagat Island, Samar, Leyte, and Surigao, which may cause flash floods and landslides.
PAGASA said rains are brought about by the convergence of northeast monsoon or hanging amihan coming from the South China Sea and easterly wind coming from the Pacific Ocean.
State weather forecasters warned residents living in low-lying areas, along river banks and near mountain slopes to take all necessary precautionary measures.
Likewise, it advised fishermen not to venture out into the seaboards of Luzon, Eastern Visayas, and Eastern Mindanao due to big waves generated by the northeasterly winds.
