THE show keeps getting bigger and better.
The Chingay Parade kicked off at the F1 Pit Building in Marina Bay on Friday night, in front of an 18,000-strong audience which included Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Among the 7,000 performers were cartoon characters like Alex the Lion and Gloria the Hippo from the animation hit Madagascar.
Foreign acts were also strutting their stuff. Among the highlights was Firecracker Dragon, a classical dragon dance performed in the midst of lighted firecrackers by the Bin Yang Firecracker Troupe from China's Guangxi province.
Even new attractions like Resorts World Sentosa got into the act. Singapore's first integrated resort showcased its Universal Studios theme park offerings on a float.
The second act of Chingay 2010 will be staged on Saturday at the same venue. The parade begins at 8pm, and the guest of honour is President S R Nathan.
