MANILA - A 5.9 MAGNITUDE quake rocked the northern Philippines early on Tuesday, US seismologists said, but no tsunami warning was immediately issued.
The quake struck 35 kilometres (22 miles) north-east of Laoag on the island of Luzon at a depth of 42km at 3.58 am (1958 GMT Monday, 3.58am Singapore time), the US Geological Survey said.
The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre did not immediately issue a tsunami warning.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where continental plates meet, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity. -- AFP
