MANILA - PHILIPPINE President Gloria Arroyo's husband was on Thursday rushed to hospital after complaining of back pains related to a heart problem, her spokesman said.
The president had to cancel a speaking engagement to attend to her husband, lawyer Jose Miguel Arroyo, presidential spokesman Cris Icban said.
'He was brought to hospital at 8.00am for back pains and related to what they earlier discovered in his aorta,' Mr Icban said, quoting the lawyer's doctor.
'The condition calls for intense observation,' he said although he added that Mr Arroyo was in a stable condition.
Jose Miguel Arroyo's health has been questionable since he had heart surgery three years ago.
In November of 2008, a commercial jet carrying President Arroyo for an annual APEC summit in Peru was forced to make an emergency landing in Japan after her husband suffered severe abdominal pains. -- AFP
