CEBU CITY - The Cebu Business Club (CBC) is urging Cebuanos, along with the rest of the citizenry not to make any unrealistic expectations from the promises made by President, Benigno Simeon Aquino III from his inaugural address, because while all the programs he intends to implement are all laudable, not all of these can be achieved within his term of six years.
"The expectations of the public are unrealistically high and this could become frustrating if the promises made by the President is not immediately realized," said CBC President, Gordon Alan Joseph during the weekly 888 News Forum at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel Tuesday.
Addressing poverty, unemployment, and corruption may be laudable causes but Joseph said solving these three critical problems completely will not happen overnight and "is not even likely to happen within the term of the new President."
Joseph said that while "people should start lowering their expectations," he is optimistic that progress and development will be genuinely felt by Filipinos under the new administration.
The CBC President also echoed the sentiments of the local business community which has expressed satisfaction at President Aquino's choices for his Cabinet. The business leader said Mr. Aquino made "the right decisions in picking the most competitive and knowledgeable persons in their respective fields" to become part of his Cabinet
"The business community is very happy with the choices of the President. His Cabinet members look very competent," he said.
Meanwhile, the Visayas Chamber, composed of 18 local chambers of Commerce and Industry has adopted nine proposed resolutions on power and energy problems. These proposals will be presented before the 36th Philippine Business Conference and Exposition (PBCE) in October this year.
The resolutions, once adopted by the PBCE, will be presented to President with a request that he include them in his executive-legislative agenda.
Said nine resolutions were presented at the closing plenary of the 19th Visayas Area Business Conference at the City Sports Club Cebu in Cebu City recently, and were submitted to Ambassador Francis Chua, President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry which hosted the PBC
