News Update The Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) has heightened security measures following a pre-dawn blast

LIGAN CITY - The Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) has heightened security measures following a pre-dawn blast that injured at least seven persons at the Palao Market here near a satellite office of the police station. Police said the explosion happened at around 3:45 a.m. Friday. Police Chief Inspector Ramil J. Lluisma, Station 5 commander of the ICPO, disclosed that based on an initial investigation conducted by authorities, an alleged round object was thrown by an unidentified person and after few seconds, an explosion transpired.

The suspect fled to unknown direction. Police identified the victims as Mario Limpangog, male, 50, of Purok 2, Saray; Cardenio Nunog, male, 54, a security guard from Fortaliza St.; Gonzalo Layag, male, 69, of Baclaan, Suares; Potri Sultan, female, 63, of Cabaro, Hinaplanon; and Mario Limpangog, all of this city. While two victims from the province of Lanao del Norte were identified as Rogelio Itol, male, 68, and Amba Naria, male, 32, from the towns of Tubod and Baloi, respectively. Victims who sustained injuries in the chest, feet, hands, and abdomen were brought to the Don Gregorio T. Lluch Memorial Hospital, a government-owned hospital, and to the Iligan Medical Center for proper treatment.

A team from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) went to determine the kind of explosive device used by the culprit. Police Chief Sr. Supt. Bernardo Reamon said that the police in coordination with the Philippine Army will conduct extensive checkpoints within the city and its boundaries. (Nef Luczon and PIA)
